Bath Spa Capital are pleased to announce the acquisition of a number of 2019 gold proof sovereigns. This gold proof coin (read more about proof coins HERE) has a mintage of only 12,270 and was sold out at issue from the Royal Mint. This flagship British gold coin is one of the most heavily collected coins in the world and enjoys the status of "Chief Coin of the World".

The sovereign as we know it today was first minted in 1817 under King George III and was the first gold coin to feature Benedetto Pistrucci's iconic St. George and the dragon design. This design has changed very little over the last two hundred years and Pistrucci's initials, B.P., can still be seen on the reverse in the right of the exergue (space below the main design reserved for the date).

Specification

7.98g of 22ct/.917 gold (Actual Gold Weight: 7.34g of 24ct/pure gold). Obverse: ELIZABETH II DEI GRA REGINA F D (Elizabeth the Second by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith). Fifth portrait of Elizabeth II, crowned with the 'George IV State Diadem', JC below truncation for designer Jody Clark. Reverse: St. George on horseback, brandishing his sword having slayed the dragon, his broken spear discarded on the ground, 2019 and B.P., for designer Benedetto Pistrucci, in exergue. Mint State/Proof FDC. Encapsulated in its original Royal Mint presentation case with certificate of authenticity.
