Commemorating 400 Years Since the Voyage of the Mayflower
In the chill of a mid-November morning in 1620, a small converted merchant ship appeared off the coast of Cape Cod, in modern-day Massachusetts. European ships had passed this way before, exploring the New World, but the 102 passengers of the Mayflower – storm-tossed and seasick – were here to stay. These were the Pilgrims, whose democratic self-government would lay the philosophical foundations for the United States of America.
In 2020 The Royal Mint commemorates the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower’s historic voyage with a vibrantly designed coin. Available in limited-edition gold and silver Proof editions, each coin has been independently graded and certified by NGC. Hermetically sealed in a scratch-resistant holder to preserve its perfect state.

When 102 passengers sailed on the Mayflower from Plymouth, England, on 16 September 1620, their sights were set on a fresh start. They landed in Plymouth Bay over three months later and, by spring, just under half of those who had landed in the New World had survived. The original ‘Thanksgiving’ feast was held that autumn, after their first successful harvest, and the spirit of the Mayflower Pilgrims endures in this national celebration to this day.
The epic story of the journey of the Mayflower is told through a £2 coin design by US designer Chris Costello.
"a contemporary coin with a subtle, traditional beauty that both British and Americans would appreciate"
“The process of this design began with historical research and visits to the museums in Plymouth, Massachusetts, then I formulated visions in my mind of what this coin would look like. Many of the features and details of the ship were imaginary … There is a bit of mythical interpretation of the Mayflower story since nobody really knows what the ship actually looked like. I wanted to create a romantic view with stylized waves that contrasted with the precarious position of the ship in rough seas, thus making an iconic and memorable design; a contemporary coin with a subtle, traditional beauty that both British and Americans would appreciate and want to own as a keepsake in memory of this historic event.”

"Since dealing with Bath Spa Capital for some 18 months now on a regular basis I have found their customer services to be excellent and their prices to be very competitive. "I have been a client of BSC for the past 2 years, dealing with the team. I have purchased a number of graded gold coins, with a tremendous amount of guidance and helpful information from the team. I recently sold a coin through BSC, that i had only owned for 8 months and achieved a 13% profit, which enabled me to buy a rarer coin that will hopefully achieve a greater profit over the coming years. The BSC team have always come across as professional, knowledgeable and friendly. I look forward to further transactions with them over the coming years."
"Just a quick letter to recommend BSC to any collector of fine gold coins. I have been collecting gold coins for more than 3 years, and in my time of collecting i must admit that BSC coins are by far the best value for money and for any investor in gold coins they are by far the best coins on the market."
